As a long-time yogi and reader of yoga memoirs, this is a book I was really looking forward to reading because of the unique perspective of Mr. Infanti. Unfortunately, the writing is so poor (think C or D level 5th grade student) that it is practically unreadable. For some reason, all editing appeared to end after the introductory section. This is a real shame...Mr. Infanti could have used a good editor throughout the remaining 95% of the book because he does have a very interesting story to tell. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend this book in its current format to anyone.

Something few could write. Because it describes a journey from Semper Fi - to Namaste. Exceptionally well done!

Whether you are new to Yoga, an experienced practitioner, or teacher, a Veteran in need of a pathway to inner peace and healing, Marine on the Mat is a must read. It is written with such honesty, and dives into the author's experience of discovering the prolific parallels, of his journey as a Marine, and his understanding and practice of what it means to live Yoga. The book outlines "Patanjali's Yoga Sutras", the "Eight Limb Path", which are threads or teachings of an 8 limb structure one can practice, to experience liberation from suffering, also known as enlightenment, or Samadhi. The reader follows the author's journey to India, on a very intimate quest for answers to how to let go of the past, and attain peace and happiness in the here and now. I wish I had this book, as a new practitioner, and Yoga teacher, as it thoroughly explains each limb, and how to incorporate it in one's life, in a profound, yet practical way. I love what the author writes..."that there is a purpose for everything." And..."While the Divine has written our destiny already, then perhaps our purpose is to make sure that the destiny turns out right and righteous." Anyone curious about their own spirituality, yearning for personal growth, or in need of a pathway to the journey of the soul, will find this book to be an invaluable guide.

This book really reaches a broad audience from Marines to Spiritualist and Yogis. But I think anyone who has never heard of yoga can benefit from this rich but very accessible content. Somehow it feels like a truth that belongs in people's lives regardless of their background.I love reading about places, especially places with rich history. The author combines these two beautifully. The content of ancient Yoga tradition is presented through this autobiography. The format makes it easy to take in and I could really relate. He shares his experiences with me as a reader so I can see what he sees. To me the great pleasure about reading is - pictures being created in my head.It amazes me, how he presented the 8 limbs of yoga in such a personal manner. I think it is a perfect way to get a taste of what Yoga really is, besides the obvious physical (exercise) practice. This is my favorite quote:'Happiness is not that difficult to attain and dissatisfaction isn't that difficult to leave behind - be content, worry less, focus on the important things, forget "I" and "mine" and instead think about "us" and "ours". Are these so hard to do?'

Rishi writes and teaches as only someone with deep personal experience of these things can do.
